S - Specific
Bad example:
“I want to write
a book.”
Good example:
“I want to write a book on stress management
that is at least 300 pages in length and have it done by January 20th.
I will commit myself to writing at least 5 pages every workday until I reach completion”.
Best
example:
I want to finish my UG/PG by June, 2013
with minimum 60% marks in aggregate without any backlogs.
M –
Measurable
Bad
example:
“I want
to be rich.”
Good
example:
“I want
to generate Rs.10, 00,000 in passive income within 3 years from this date.”
Best example:
I love
to have luxury and comfort life for me and my family within 2 years from now by
savings almost Rs.10, 000/ per month.
A – Achievable
Bad example:
“I want to become a billionaire in 6 months.”
Good example:
“I want to become a billionaire within 15 years
by starting my own IT / Engineering Company by creating different product
lines”.
Best example:
I love to see myself after 10 years in a
higher position with greater responsibilities and accountabilities.
R
– Realistic
Bad
example:
“Within
one year, I will change 100% attitude of my colleagues & juniors. I will
compel them to follow my orders”.
Good
example:
“By the
end of the year, I will try to bring some changes in the working cultures of
the staff”.
Best example:
First of
all I must have a TEAM for bringing any type of change in the offices. By
developing the culture of leadership only I can satisfy them up to 25%.
T – Time Bound
Bad example:
“I am going to finish my office work.”
Good example:
“I am going to finish my office work by 7 pm
today and I will achieve this deadline by following ABC approach i.e. by
settings priorities FIFO.
Best
example:
I will try to complete my all target within
this month without hampering other works.
